With the emergence of TikTok and all its interesting trends, it’s hard not to experience decision fatigue. I'm sure we all suffer from the same thoughts:
Should I bleach my money piece?
Should I get bangs?
Or, my favorite…
Should I stop shaving?
And in the moment– It’s a resounding YES. However, it can be a little problematic when I want to show my skin. Hey, what can I say? And an “everything shower” is hard work!
So for those ladies who can relate and hate shaving…
I took it upon myself to research the top 5 most popular hair removal methods.
1.) Laser Hair Removal
Number one on my list (and in my heart) is laser hair removal.
Essentially this works by damaging or killing the hair follicle, so hair will not grow back, and if it does, it won't for a long time.
Why? Because the hair follicle is killed, eliminating any chances of new growth (Yay for me– one less step in my shower routine).
Now, the downside is that you need a series of treatments that can be expensive and painful…
But if you want the benefit of barely ever having to shave or wax again…
This one’s for you!
2.) Waxing
If I didn’t have to go every month… This one would be at the top of my list.
Waxing pulls the hair completely out of the follicle without damaging it. This basically restarts the hair cycle, making hair growth come in slower.
If you want to worry less about when you have to shave, I will say that this is the best option.
Consistent waxing leads to better results: you're basically training the follicle to grow at a more consistent pace.
However, it can be a little harsh to the skin and lead to irritation…
So be aware if you have sensitive skin.
Also, you can DIY… The choice is yours!
3.) Sugaring
Similar to waxing except instead of using wax it's sugar…
It’s all-natural and less irritating too!
However, it ranks number three because It’s more expensive than waxing…
And I don’t have the time to DIY myself!
4.) Depilatory Creams
Ah, my Grandmother's favorite… And my worst nightmare!
I tried this method for the sake of research but honestly…
It was messy… AND stink.
The reason it’s #4 is because I appreciate the idea of it being minimal effort. Just wait 5 minutes and your hair is gone! Poof!
However, there’s just too many cons.
If you’re looking to try this, always do a patch test ( apply a thin layer 24 hours before you plan on doing this) so you can be aware of any allergic reactions.
5.) Shaving
As a control variable to compare to the other methods… Shaving reigns last.
Why? Shaving only cuts hairs close to the surface of the skin, so within a couple of days, you’ll see new growth again.
Unlike waxing, shaving doesn't affect the growth cycle whatsoever.
Plus, you need to take razor quality into consideration…
A dull razor can lead to razor burn, ingrown hairs, and even nicks or cuts.
Ouch.
Personally, this is my least favorite hair removal method.
