Have you ever looked at the ingredients list in your shampoo? I have and it’s full of long, complicated ingredients that I for sure can’t pronounce. And trust me, the last thing we all want to do is pay for a $15 dollar shampoo that is going to damage our hair.

We expect our shampoo to do its job– properly cleanse and leave our hair shiny with a delicious smell. So when our shampoo leaves our hair dry, flakey, and dull we instantly go searching for a new one. Some people go as far as ditching their shampoos and buying different ones every month, which is a costly ordeal.

And sometimes, people take in a more radical approach: ditching shampoo all together. I know, I know. It sounds a little out there. But what do you do if you aren’t using shampoo?

Well, for starters, it’s called the “No Poo method” and the Idea is to use anything but shampoo to wash your scalp.

Yup you read that right– anything but shampoo! Some people use soda and apple cider vinegar, others use clay, and if you want to radically stick to the No Poo method then plain old water can get the job done.

The Idea is to detox your hair from all of the chemicals that shampoo deposits in the scalp. This, in turn, gives you bouncier, fuller, more vibrant hair that no product in the world could ever achieve.

This all sounds great and all, I agree that our hair could use some serious detoxing! However, our scalp is a very sensitive place. You see, our body makes an oil called sebum, mostly to hydrate our skin, hair, and nails. But when too much sebum accumulates on our scalp, it can cause a world of problems. Shedding, irritation, and even dandruff can wreak havoc on our scalps environment. Our hair could even stop growing for a little bit due to clogged follicles. Simply put, an unhealthy scalp is not a place where our hair can thrive.

Always do your research when it comes to these new trendy hair care methods.

While yes, it’s important to cut as many chemicals as you can from your line of hair care, it’s also important to properly cleanse the scalp.
